How You Know You've Found a Corrupted Belief
Corrupted Beliefs threaten your worth or make your value contingent on anything aside from what God has done for you.
I'm only valuable when people need me. My spouse only wants me if I look a certain way. If I'm not accomplishing, then I'm not valuable.
Corrupted Beliefs sound like absolutes or all-or-nothing statements, with words like never, always, must, everyone, those people, can't, won't…
I'll never have a happy marriage. I always come up short, no matter how hard I try. I can't take a break, because everyone always needs me. It doesn't matter what I want — everyone else's needs come first. No one cares about me, so I shouldn't try to share.
Corrupted Beliefs create distance between you and God, or you and others.
People aren't trustworthy. They only care about themselves. I don't need any help. My emotions or personality are too much for people. If they knew who I really was, or what I've done, they'd run away. Always be the loudest/prettiest/strongest/funniest, or no one will notice you.
Corrupted Beliefs say you're responsible for or in control of ANYthing besides your own actions in the present moment.
They need me, I have to help. If I'm honest, it'll hurt them too much. If only I had been there, that wouldn't have happened. If I don't do it, no one will. I am my past.
