A framework for forgiving. This week, start with one person you need to forgive.
A Framework for Forgiving
You can use this as a worksheet to process any situation that requires forgiveness. This week, start with one person you need to forgive.
- Who are they, and what did they do? Be specific, honest, and thorough.
- How did it make you feel? What fears did it create or confirm?
- How did it change how you see or interact with yourself, God, or other people?
- How have you judged them since? How has this wound affected how you treat them or others?
- How would you describe the debt you feel they owe you? Be specific and honest — what did you lose?
Write out a prayer. Tell God you're releasing them from your debt, ask Him for the courage to keep it that way, ask Him to help you repair what was broken in you, and then pray. For. Them.
Pray that they'd grow, change, find joy, and come to know the same loving God that you know. As you pray, ask God this question: "How can you help me see this person and why they did what they did, differently?"
Write down any thoughts, feelings, or realizations.
